Phase 4: Creating a Community College Culture of Health

The League for Innovation in the Community College (League), in collaboration with the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), aims to create a Community College Culture of Health. As part of this effort, the League encourages community colleges to hold events during National Public Health Week 2020 (April 6-12, 2020) or World Health Day (April 7, 2020) that focus on increasing awareness among community college students of career opportunities in public health.

The League awarded 56 small grants to support community college public health career awareness activities during National Public Health Week and/or World Health Day in 2019 and 2020. ASPPH, the association representing schools and programs of public health, and the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), which represents health education specialists, are working with the League to increase awareness of career opportunities in public health among community college students. The American Public Health Association (APHA) is the lead organization for National Public Health Week, and the United Nations World Health Organization sponsors World Health Day.
